The Dead Riders team up with David Nicholas

Young Sydney-based 3 piece, The Dead Riders are teaming up with Aussie engineering legend David Nicholas from Rhinoceros Music (check the discography, INXS, Elton John and Pulp to name just a few).

I had the pleasure of assisting David tracking this power trio at Music Feeds / Megaphon Studio on the weekend.

The main live room @ Music Feeds Studio (Megaphon) has always been my favourite for large rock drum sounds, and this combined with David’s know-how was a fine combination.

Favourite elements of the session were:

• David’s Overhead Mic Technique (see pictures)
• One kick drum mic only (421)
• Ambience mics place an inch away from walls facing wall

The Dead Rider’s are due to release their first single for Rhinoceros Music later this year. It’s sure to be a rather large sound.
